awards

Photography for me is not about winning awards. But when your work is recognised in the form of an award, often judged by photographers you hold in high esteem, it is very rewarding.

3 WINS (including 2 “Best of the Best”)

It has been a very lean year of photography this year, for personal reasons, so to achieve 3 win results in this international architecture photography competition meant a lot to me. For each entry, I provided a set of images for a specific building. There are varying categories, as you can see in the categories in which I was awarded a win. Two of my entries also achieved “Best of the Best” awards, which is assigned to those entries which were awarded the highest scores across ALL categories.

Pleased to have received 3 entries in the Top 20!! Also received a number of Highly Commended and Commended awards.

THE LANDSCAPE AWARDS - URBAN CATEGORY 2024

2 X TOP 20 and 1 X TOP 30

After winning the Landscape Awards last year, it was always going to be tough entering again, knowing I could not have such high expectation! I ended up entering a number of images in the Urban category; a category I felt more comfortable with. I was very pleased to have received these results.

5 WINS AND 1 HONORABLE MENTION

This was my first year entering the Student section of the international Architecture Masterprize Photography Awards competition and I couldn’t be more ecstatic with my results. The competition champions excellence in architecture in design, but has an associated photography competition. For each entry, I provided a set of images for a specific building (which needed to be less than 5 years old). There are varying categories, both exterior and interior and I am excited that all my sets did so well. The icing on the cake was the fact that 5 of my entries were considered “Best of the Best” which is assigned to those entries which were awarded the highest scores across all categories. TOP 10 FINALIST - ENVIRONMENT CATEGORY

Photo Collective truly encourage diverse and thought provoking images, so I was thrilled to receive a top 10 Finalist placing in the Environment category. This is one competition where there is a live awards ceremony and exhibition of the finalist works in Melbourne. It was wonderful to attend the event recently and meet those who enthusiastically run it and to meet other fellow photographers. My image “Forest Silence” has gained steady recognition for its emotive quality and I couldn’t be happier.

OVERALL WINNER AND WINNER OF LANDSCAPE CATEGORY - Australian Photography Magazine

Landscape photography is quickly becoming a genre I love as much as architecture (thanks Covid for getting me out in the countryside more). But it is a competitive genre, so being the overall winner in this competition was such a shock and still gives me a buzz. The image “Forest Silence” has touched a lot of people - they felt the connection to nature that I felt in taking it.

TOP 5 FINALIST (“RUNNER UP”) - 2023 EMERGING TALENT

This was only the second time I had entered this international photography competition, so I was blown away in receiving a Top 5 placing - which in terms of the competition is deemed a Runner Up. This was the first competition for which I actually received a trophy. Now all I need is a mantlepiece to put it on!

SEMI FINALIST X 3 DIGITAL CATAGORIES

This international photography competition is open to professional, amateur and student photographers and one I regard will become one of the industry’s most highly regarded competitions (filling the void left by the AIPP upon its closure). Images can be entered in either digital or in print and the top group of entries judged live by well renowned photographers. As much as watching live judging can be stomach churning, I was pleased to have been able to achieve 3 Semi Finalist results for the images below - all taken on my first (but not last) trip to New Zealand in March/April 2023.

EDITOR’S CHOICE AWARD - 2022 EMERGING TALENT

This was the first time I had entered this photography competition. The standards are high and include entries from professional, amateur and student architecture photographers from all over the world. While the judges were still considering the winners for the competition, the Editors chose their favourite 10 images from each category. I was over the moon to have been chosen by the Editors with this image in the Emerging Talent category. SEMI-FINALIST - HEAD ON LANDSCAPE AWARDS

This is a prestigious international competition with entries from all over the world and highly awarded entries displayed and exhibitions held during the Head On Festival in Sydney annually. To achieve a Semi-Finalist placing, after entering a number of years without success, was very rewarding. My image was exhibited online and in the

THE MONO AWARDS - 2022

4TH PLACE - PLACES CATEGORY

This is a popular competition with entries exceeding last years number by 40%. So I was ecstatic to achieve this 4th placing with this special shot - taken in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia on a moody March morning. The 3 Sisters escarpment couldn’t be seen, but the mist provided the perfect mood for this monochrome image - making the scene timeless. The quality of entries in the competition equalled by the quality of the judges, with the likes of Jackie Ranken, Mike Langford, William Long and Matt Palmer, to name a few.

6TH PLACE - LANDSCAPE PORTFOLIO

This was the inaugural year of this photography competition, judged by many of Australia’s leading photographers. As always, before entering I read the competition guidelines and took a chance with this portfolio set in the Landscape category as the guidelines indicated that as well as your standard landscape images, you could enter interpretative and creative sets. So this set of images is taken of an artistic structure within the entry of 1 Denison Street, North Sydney and I’m so happy the judges liked it enough to award 6th place. The calibre of entries was very high - to see the gallery click here 360 Photo Awards - Landscape Portfolio gallery

ARCHITECTURE CATEGORY - 2 x Top 10, 3 x Top 20 and 5 x Highly Commended

- winner, architecture category

The Double Helix Staircase at UTS Central in Sydney, Australia looks beautiful from inside and out. I particularly like the way it blends aesthetics and function and captures the essence of good architectural design. I believe it takes spiral staircases to another level, excuse the pun! It was such a pleasure photographing this location and I was extremely humbled to have taken out the top award in this category in this competition with these images.

SHORTLISTED - TRAVEL/STREET CATEGORY

Although I rarely shoot street photography, the combination of both street and architecture in this image (taken at the James Turrell “Within Without” installation in Canberra) turned out to be my favourite shot of the year and thankfully the judges in this competition were also impressed enough to give it a shortlisted placing.

the epson international pano awards 2020

This was the first time I had entered an international competition. With over 3000 entries in the Amateur section, I subsequently learned that it was also a very well regarded competition, which made me even more excited with my results.

“Iglu” came from wandering the Chippendale precinct in Sydney, which has a plentiful supply of unusual architecture. This student accommodation building stood out in the morning light with its window reflections and interesting facade. I wondered how the resident students feel about it from within. “Somersby Falls” was taken after an unplanned detour following a photography workshop nearby. I had heard of its appeal to landscape photographers before and when I saw the falls, I understood why.
